Alert for journalists dismissed from RTSH/Zhupa: Police cannot cure Peza's

The Association of Journalists of Albania raised the alarm this Thursday about the actions of the General Director of the Albanian Radio and Television, Alfred Peza, and the State Police.

According to the AGSH's complaint, at least 5 former RTSH employees were called to the Tirana Police, were interrogated and their mobile phones were checked due to a report made by Alfred Peza for "damaging the image".

Regarding the statement of AGSH, there was also a reaction from the deputy of DP, Ina Zhupa.

The latter condemns the behavior of the police, as it says that the phones of journalists who have been abusively discharged, without a court order, cannot be checked to cure Peza's image.

Zhupa emphasizes that Peza can heal his image by not doing actions in violation of the law, such as unfair dismissals and abuses of RTSH funds.

Full statement:

I strongly condemn the unprecedented behavior of state police journalists.

The State Police can't request the seizure of personal phones without a court order and call the police journalists who have denounced the abusive dismissals from work at RTSH because the image of Alfred Peza is ruined.

As the chairperson of the Education and Public Media Committee, I demand respect for the rights of journalists, the guarantee of freedom of expression and non-violation of constitutional and civil rights.

Alfred Peza will heal his image by not firing people unjustly, by not abusing RTSH funds, by not illegally hiring friends and relatives and not by using police terror because of his connections with the majority.

The State Police should stop this unprecedented behavior when there is no work done by the journalists, except for the exercise of their freedom of expression.
