Balla's statement against Vokshi in parliament/ IDC-CDI AND WCDI condemn

The international organizations IDC-CDI and the CDI Women's Forum (WCDI) have condemned the statement of the leader of the socialist parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, towards the DP MP, Albana Vokshi, during the plenary session of the Parliament.

In his speech, Balla referred to Vokshi by the number “0900”, an allusion to sex hotlines, considered an attack on the dignity of a woman in public office. IDC-CDI and WCDI described this behavior as unacceptable and incompatible with the standards of democratic representation.

The organizations demand that all political forces in Albania, especially those in the governing majority, condemn this behavior and guarantee respect in parliamentary debate. “Sexist intimidation and attempts to silence women through abusive language must be rejected unequivocally,” their statement said.

IDC-CDI and WCDI stressed that parliaments must lead by example in protecting equality, dignity and respect for women, stressing that sexism and personal degradation cannot be tolerated in political life./ CNA
