"Education has failed"/ Expert Ndriçim Mehmeti raises the alarm

The education expert, Ndriçim Mehmeti, in an interview for CNA TV, with the journalist Fabjona Pasho, stated that the state of education in the country is alarming.

Referring to the PISA results, Mehmeti lists the problems faced by the sector, from the low salaries of teachers to the lack of investment in technology.

"We are definitely in the worst day. We have the Pisa results, which are extremely negative, we have lost some points in the main sciences. We lack a deep and detailed analysis by the MAS. Also, we have not had more than 10 years let's have a discussion about the curriculum. Instead of us talking about Artificial Intelligence, we talk about the students not being able to read and write. What are we talking about?! It's cold, how will the school be heated, is there hot water or not, is there hygiene or not, is there safety in schools or not", he said.

According to Mehmet, the reforms are not coherent and are not implemented.

"They were not reforms. They were that I get up in the morning, give an idea and call it a reform. First, in education, reforms are well thought out and second, reforms are systemic. That is, we take the system and correct what is not it goes, no, we throw it down. Here the whole system was thrown down, we come up with the idea and do it better. We lack a long-term vision", he said.

The expert shows that the problem starts in the preschool system.

"If 10,000 families have 2 children, from kindergarten. Kindergarten age is what? 30%, in numbers it translates to 120. Then we need a kindergarten with 6 groups, we need a primary school, then we need a secondary school. The quality that is in the "Sami Frashëri" school, in another x school, we have an imbalance both in the way of teaching and in the quality that we provide, while the entire World Bank program has aimed for quality and equality in education for years. "We have neither quality in education nor equality," he said.

According to the expert, the consequences of the poor results in the PISA report will be felt by future generations, while he is not optimistic that the situation will improve./ CNA
