Arrest of police officers for corruption/ SPAK sheds light on the incident: 5

SPAK has issued an official announcement regarding the arrest of three police officers involved in passive corruption.

In the announcement, SPAK explains how the corruption case was discovered, where in an accident that occurred a few days ago, officials demanded money from the family members of one of the people involved in the accident.

More specifically, they have requested 2 thousand euros to avoid arresting the person who caused the accident, as a result of which 5 people ended up in the hospital.

During the checks carried out on three officials, 2,500,000 lek and 26 thousand euros were found and seized.

SPAK orders the detention of the head of the Traffic Police Commissariat and two officers involved in passive corruption

The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime has conducted investigative actions within the framework of criminal proceedings no. 91/1, of 2023.

In the dynamics of the investigations, on April 18, by order of the special prosecutor, the following citizens were detained: RZ, head of the Traffic Police Commissariat, SN, head of the investigation of road accidents at this commissariat, and ET, judicial police officer, suspected of committing the criminal offense of "Passive corruption of persons exercising public functions", committed in collaboration (provided for by articles 259/2 and 25 of the Criminal Code.)

On April 16, 2025, a road accident occurred in the city of Tirana, where two vehicles collided with each other. As a result of the accident, the five people traveling in one of the vehicles were taken to the hospital for medical assistance.

While in the other vehicle there was only the driver AV, the wife of citizen EV, suspected of committing the criminal offense of "Active corruption of persons exercising public functions" (provided for by Article 244 of the Criminal Code.)

Following data and information provided by officers of the National Bureau of Investigation (BKH), it emerged that traffic police officers have demanded a payment of 2 thousand euros from the family of the driver of the vehicle, citizen AV, for not arresting her.

The amount of money was requested to be handed over within a short time and was obtained by the person under investigation EV, with the help of other persons. He handed this amount over to one of the traffic police officers - a fact proven during the investigation.

The detention order for citizens: ET, SN and RZ was executed by the BKH, in cooperation with the Police Supervision Agency. During the checks carried out on behalf of this criminal proceeding, the amounts of; 2,500,000 lek and 26 thousand euros were seized as material evidence./ CNA
