Edi Rama understands only after 8 years

Despite what Prime Minister Edi Rama stated during a weekend visit to the southeast

of the country, Korça has lost a lot these 8 years. And not only Korça, but also Pogradeci, Devolli and Kolonja, which these 8 years have not benefited from major and strategic investments by the Albanian government.

All current investments were launched not before 8 but maybe 12 years ago. Investments and strategies to turn Korça into a tourist region started in 2009. Many of them have been suspended or dragged out, and these are facts. The region of Korça lost a lot in these 8 years, just like Pogradeci, Kolonja and Devolli.

Let us analyze the facts one by one, not what Rama tells us today as his successes, but what are the truths. Rama goes to sleep in a hotel that is a private investment, and tells us how beautiful the Cathedral or the square opposite is. But he must not forget that investments have all started during the Democratic Party government, and it has been someone else?s vision to turn Korça into the region it is today.

There is no question that Niko Peleshi himself is an essential part of this vision. It all started before 2009. But during that year?s election campaign, the regional strategy for Korça tourism was prepared as a concrete idea and project of the former Minister of Finance, Ridvan Bode, and it all started with a clear strategy.

The characteristic cobblestone streets of the city were immediately reconstructed, thanks to an investment provided by the Albanian government. In the meantime, the full credit was taken for the sewage and white water of the city. Then the road from Korça to Pogradec was reconstructed, from Korça to Prespa, from the national road to Vithkuq, the national road to Voskopoja, the national road to Dardha.

Finally, would start the repair of the national road Korça-Ersekë. All this with a single purpose:to arrive from Korça in 30 minutes in all tourist areas. So to the lake, to the mountains or even the historical areas of the Korça region.

With the coming to power of the Socialists in 2013, even the largest investment that would give development to these resources was neglected. Moreover, they wanted to cancel the investment of about 200 million dollars of the road Qukës-Qafë Plloçë.

It was started by the Berisha government, with signed loans and a completed project, and it has not been completed even today after 8 years. The strategy of the Democratic Party government, developed the entire area of Korça with concrete investments, which had to do with the cleaning of the sewerage system in the fields, to avoid floods.

With concrete investments and subsidies, were planted many apples, pears and various fruit crops. Another project that was canceled by the government of Edi Rama, was the full electrification of the Korça plain and the Devoll plain.

These priorities of yesterday, Edi Rama shows us today as his investments. In fact, Korça has lost 8 years with Edi Rama. Except Korca Bazaar, or an ugly tower in the city center, the rest of the strategic investments were part of the previous government and is the merit of the citizens of Korca, who have invested with their culture and tradition, and returned in a major tourist attraction not only for family members but also for young people.

Investments are already being made for large hotels, but they are not the investments of Edi Rama. Rama had to invest in the reconstruction of the national road Qukës-Qafë Plloçë, which he has not finished yet. He had to invest in the Lin-Pogradec road, which was started again by the DP government and finished after 5 years.

Not to mention other lingering investments, working improvised and unplanned. Stop investing and start other investments, without having a clear vision and strategy. The Korça that is today, is the merit of a vision of yesterday and mainly, the merit of the citizens who used the resources that the area has, and invested their tradition and culture in the development of Korça.

The region of Korça has been the 3rd nationally in the level of investments, today it is 7th or 8th. This is the truth of what must be said about Edi Rama. Korça lost not a little, but almost 8 years with Edi Rama. Now that he understood, maybe it is too late, but better late than never, at least these 2 days he has turned his sight to Korça./CNA.al
