What does he lose, and why Lulzim Basha is afraid of open lists?!

A debate continues to be every day in the attention of public opinion, but also of politics and diplomats in Albania, regarding the electoral system. After the June 5 agreement, where Lulzim Basha returned to the tracks of parliamentarism, recognizing once again the parliament abandoned by him and the political opponent, the leader of the ?New Republic? and part of the opposition is openly and strongly opposed to changing the composition formula of lists of candidates for deputies.

During the long protest of 2017 in the Tent, in front of the Prime Minister?s building, Lulzim Basha demanded the oppening of the electoral lists. This is what he asked a few months ago, before the foreign ambassadors accredited in Tirana.

Shouting loudly that open lists were needed to solve the problems that the electoral system had, but these were not accepted by Edi Rama. But then the surprise happened, when Edi Rama and most Albanians started supporting Luli Basha?s proposal, the latter withdrew and said that this is an illegal request of Rama.

And that the system and the Constitution cannot change a year before the elections. Anyway the facts are facts. Lulzim Basha has a problem and what we said above, he probably likes, so the changes in the electoral system, but somewhere he has stalled.

There is a big problem that he cannot solve. He has been held hostage and is afraid. His biggest problem is the split that could happen to the party he leads, in the scenario of losing the election. And in the case of open lists, even if he won, there would still be problems.

In case of losing the open list elections, putting the names on the list would again be done by him. But unlike the 2017 election, where he put names, including stupid, incompetent and servile, and what was behind, this time he will have to make the list with the members of the elite of Albanian society.

He should fill the list with names that collect votes, that is, that attract the public opinion and the Albanian citizens. This would in fact bring an increase in the votes of the opposition, and Lulzim Basha is interested on this. But, on the other hand there is a trouble.

And his trouble lies in the fact that those MPs who would come out with open lists, would be even more independent. They would not have big obligations to Lulzim Basha. In case of a victory, they could increase the bazaar, everyone in his district, or in his areas could create a lobby, with two or three deputies from the open lists, who could create problems for Lulzim Basha.

This would be prompted by his indolence in making deals and create a spirit of unity or even a broad opposition coalition. And this is also evident from the behavior of the opposition allies themselves. Therefore, Lulzim Basha is probably pro with both hands for open lists.

But he worries that in case of loss they would destroy the party. No one would ask him anymore.

They would take him out by rags. Meanwhile, in case of a victory, it would be difficult for him to become prime minister, as the internal waters and those of the allies would create big problems for him. That is why Lulzim Basha does not like open lists, because he is not a leader, he cannot create spirit, he cannot gather around himself trusted people with principles, figures with personality to stand by the values and principles of a political force.

But he is already left alone, with a swarm of servile people who say to him all day ?Order, as you command?. But, this farms, will produce that dairy. So, open lists with a bunch of disobedient people, which tomorrow will create quite a few problems. Again, it will be his people who will create them.

And they will be the same people that Luli Basha is afraid of today, because he was not able to create in 7 years a real opposition, an alliance with the citizens but also an elite with names and personalities who stood behind him.

With open lists, Luli Basha fears that the ?enemies? he will have to put on the lists, because he will try to increase the number of votes to come to power, then they can go back, asking them separation of powers, asking for agreements within the opposition, or the new majority.

Luli Basha cannot do this, he never knew how to do it. Even today when all day he screams, saying ?United opposition?, when in fact the opposite has led the opposition to the new reality. An opposition in parliament and an opposition outside it.

And this is again a product of Lulzim Basha, which open lists will bring him many problems. Therefore, today he is in great trouble, being open against the Albanians for opening the lists, and for fair political competition. Hence, because troubles, a man can do anything. And Luli Basha does not have a single problem, but many, many problems as chairman of the rest of the opposition./ CNA.al
