Situation in Hormuz/ Trump: I expect Japan to take important steps

President Trump has been asked about Japan's reluctance to help the US in its war with Iran, particularly by securing the key shipping lane, the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump said he expects Japan to move forward, including on the Asian country's interest in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump's comments came during a White House briefing with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

"I expect Japan to prosper, because, you know, we have that kind of relationship. And we prosper in Japan. We have 45,000 soldiers in Japan," Trump says.

Trump continues, saying that "oil is a big reason for them to take steps forward," after mentioning that Japan gets "more than 90% of its oil through the Strait."
