Behind the scenes/ Italy players demanded a bonus for qualifying for the World Cup

Italy's elimination from the World Cup playoffs came after a penalty shootout loss to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Before the decisive match, 28 players demanded a bonus of around 300 thousand euros in case of qualification for the World Cup.

This request caused dissatisfaction among the technical staff and the intervention of coach Gennaro Gattuso. He demanded that the team focus only on the match and not on the rewards.

The situation affected the team's atmosphere, which worsened further after the elimination. After the match, only Leonardo Spinazzola spoke to the media.

In the following days, several players called for Gattuso to remain on the bench. However, the coach resigned after the departures of Gabriele Gravina and Gianluigi Buffon from managerial roles.
