The father of 14-year-old Erald Xhejo, who was killed on August 15 of this year by his peer, Enedio Guri, has reacted after the decision of the Tirana Court of Appeal, which released the perpetrator's father and uncle, Edison Guri and Roland Guri, who were accused of concealing the crime, from prison.
Court of Appeal Judge Lutfije Celami has changed the security measure for these two citizens from "prison arrest" to "house arrest".
Meanwhile, the victim's family members have considered this an injustice on the part of the court and are demanding their return to their cells.
The victim's father, Edison Xhejo, expresses his outrage after this decision, adding that the entire family is shocked, as they are finding solace in the case only in justice.
"When the trial was held, one of the arrested people was Florian Çela, who was with the perpetrator in the car and did not prevent the incident, which was the first, the main one was this. When the trial was held, the court left him under house arrest. We did not want to give interviews because we can't stand it every time we talk. A few days ago we learned that both his uncle and his father had come forward, the Appeals Court brought them out. We are seeking justice, until yesterday we had faith in justice, but I don't know what can be done. I don't know the argument, the decision hasn't been made yet, a judge from Tirana simply brought them out. The lawyer said that the decision would be made in 5 days, meanwhile 10 days have passed and more.
We don't even know why they were released. The prosecution initially requested prison for these three people, when now we find out that they were released, they had filed a request with the Court of Appeal in Tirana. How can we pursue this case?! Only by law, by justice, if there is justice. We appeal to the institutions, we will deal with this case as long as we live. We have faith in justice, but also not many. We want the institutions to take action because many things are happening, like the case of our son, many things are happening, it also happened in Durrës, others have also happened.
The boy had gone out with his friends, went to get a haircut in Pirg and on the way they had collided with the author in a car. From what the boy's friends told me, they had whistled at them and there they had a fight. I don't believe it was a planned fight, they had nothing in common, they were children. No, no one came (from the author's family), they didn't bother. Even if they had wanted to, what would they ask for?
We are very devastated. The only consolation we had was in justice, but as things are happening… we no longer know where to trust and what can be done! The father and uncle (of the perpetrator) who hid the crime weapon, had taken the knife, had washed it, I don't know how they release such people! What are these judges? I don't know. We only want justice, so that what happened to us doesn't happen to anyone. Besides the incident, the fact that these two were released has shocked us even more. No one believes it, our entire social circle says "how is it possible?", - said Xhejo. /CNA
