WHO report: 48.6% of Albanian children suffer from dental problems

A report recently compiled by the World Health Organization focuses extensively on children's dental problems, including in Albania.

According to the report, almost 1 in 2 children aged 1–9 have decayed teeth. A full 48.6% of Albanian children suffer from dental caries, a figure that is above the European average.

Albania ranks fourth in Europe, after Bosnia, Serbia and North Macedonia, for the high number of children with dental problems.

WHO experts highlight through their analysis that oral diseases affect almost half of the population in Europe, including Albania. According to dentists, the cause of this situation is poor oral hygiene and the consumption of products and drinks with added sugar by children.

Although the focus is on children and their education to prevent oral problems, the report highlights that adults also have dental problems. According to the WHO, 1 in 3 people or 33.7% of adults over 60 in Albania have lost all their teeth and use dentures. /CNA
