Alarming situation in oil areas/ Tumor diseases increase by 300%, respiratory

A report compiled by the Supreme State Audit Office has shared extremely alarming figures regarding the health situation in some of the country's oil areas.

The report provides a description of the situation in the oil fields in Patoz-Marinëz, Roskovec and Fier, while noting that tumor diseases have increased by 300%, and respiratory diseases have increased.

The reason for this, according to the report, is the quality of the air and nature near these oil-producing areas.

"The oil workers of Patoz-Marinëz were on hunger strike for better working conditions, their health situation and that of all residents living near the oil field is deteriorating at alarming rates due to the quality of the air and nature.

In the Roskovec area, cases of respiratory diseases have reportedly increased by 1200 percent from 2021 to now. According to official figures, it turns out that 4 years ago, the number of reported cases of this disease was only 20 per 10 thousand inhabitants. Currently, this figure has reached 243 cases per 10 thousand inhabitants.

In the Fier area, the number of patients with tumor diseases has increased by 300 percent, compared to 2025. Ten years ago, 393 people were registered in the city, while currently, the figure has exceeded 1300, ranking Fier Hospital in second place in the treatment of such cases, after Tirana, "the report mentions. /CNA
