"Unemployment increased by 40%"/ BSPSH: The government must react to

Given the difficult economic situation in the five municipalities of the Shkodra District, the Union of Independent Albanian Trade Unions, Shkodra branch, issued a statement to the media this Wednesday. Its leader, Albert Tuka, said that unemployment has increased by 40%, while tourism has failed. Tuka added that purchasing power has decreased, while asking the prime minister to turn his attention to Shkodra. According to him, workers are not paid for overtime and are threatened with being replaced with workers from Bangladesh.

"We are concerned about the difficult socio-economic situation of the Shkodra Region. Unemployment has increased to 40%. Many jobs are closing due to wrong state policies. Today, businesses are going bankrupt. Pensioners are being deprived of social security and it is inexcusable. We call on the prime minister to turn his attention to Shkodra because poverty has increased. Unions inform us that workers work overtime and are not paid. Shkodra with its five municipalities is in collapse", said the Chairman of BSPSH Shkodra, Albert Tuka.

Meanwhile, the President of the Shkodra Health Union, Paolo Kaceri, demanded that employees have a more dignified salary, as they work in scandalous conditions in the Albanian healthcare system. For Kaceri, corruption has reached its peak, while the people have been oppressed.

"Healthcare workers are heroes in these miserable conditions that healthcare has in our country. We demand improved working conditions and increased salaries. Everywhere in Europe, people protest for their rights, only here the people are oppressed. But, the problems are extraordinary," said the Chairman of the Shkodra Health Union, Paolo Kaceri.

Union representatives are concerned that the government has not increased the minimum wage or pensions. They have warned of protests if the institutions do not react./CNA
