In 2024, about 9.2% of the European Union population were unable to keep their home warm enough.
According to the latest Eurostat data, this figure represents an improvement of 1.4 percentage points compared to 2023, indicating a partial easing of energy difficulties at the European level.
However, differences between Member States remain marked. Bulgaria and Greece top the list of the most affected countries, with 19.0% of the population reporting an inability to adequately heat their homes. They are followed by Lithuania with 18.0% and Spain with 17.5%.
At the other end of the spectrum, Finland records the lowest percentage, with only 2.7% of the population affected.
Relatively favorable conditions are also reported in Poland and Slovenia (3.3% each), as well as in Estonia and Luxembourg (3.6%).
Experts emphasize that, despite the overall improvement, energy poverty remains a serious challenge for some EU countries, especially in conditions of high energy prices and low household incomes./ CNA
