For the past week, the beach of Velipoja has been affected by massive pollution with various waste, mainly plastic, but also waste brought by water currents. Since the early hours of the morning, a large-scale cleaning operation has begun in Velipoja after numerous currents that have brought a considerable amount of waste to the coast.

Shkodra Municipality's public services teams and three municipal enterprises' teams are engaged in the field to clean the entire sand strip. The work is expected to continue until normalcy is fully restored.

" Shkodra Municipality is today, with all its employees, committed to cleaning the entire surface of the sand on Velipoja beach. Together with the structures and means, we aim to improve the situation through this action. We have been following this pollution with concern and will continue every day until the complete cleaning of Velipoja beach ," said the Deputy Mayor of Shkodra Municipality, Alban Preka.

 

According to local authorities, the waste brought by the flows is the result of pollution of rivers and streams in the territory, which shows that any pollution thrown into the environment ends up back in nature and in our tourist areas. Institutions appeal for increased responsibility and awareness, emphasizing that environmental protection begins with the daily actions of every citizen.
