Meeting on cartels and organized crime/ Director of the US Department of Justice

The U.S. Embassy in Tirana welcomed the U.S. Department of Justice’s Assistant Director for ICITAP, Stephen Fields, from May 19 to 23. During his visit, Mr. Fields met with Chargé d’Affaires Nancy VanHorn, Embassy officials, and leaders of law enforcement institutions in Albania to express gratitude for the strong partnership with Albania.

Fields conveyed the U.S. Attorney General's priorities to eliminate cartels, international organized crime, and illegal immigration.

Assistant Director Fields held meetings with the Minister of Interior Ervin Hoxha, the Head of SPAK Altin Dumani, the General Director of the State Police Ilir Proda, the General Director of the Police Supervision Agency Florian Sulejmani, the General Director of Prisons Klevis Qose and others.

In addition, $340,000 in U.S. equipment was transferred to Albanian prisons through ICITAP and the State Department's Bureau of Counterterrorism and INL. The visit concluded with the presentation of the Award of Excellence and the first international IADLEST accreditation for the Security Academy. /CNA
