Reimbursement of medications/ Shehu: The change in the law from the Renaissance

Democratic Party MP Tritan Shehu reacted through a post on social media regarding the reimbursement of medications.

Shehu writes that the value of financing should be increased from 13,500 million lek to 27,000 million lek.

The Democrat states that the reimbursement value of medications is extremely low and most of the reimbursed medications are not certified.

Shehu says that the changes made in 2014 jeopardized the safety of medications in Albania.

Reimbursement of medications for citizens: Increase the value of budget funding from 13,500 million lek to 27,000 million lek.

This is Amendment No. 2 submitted by me to the Parliamentary Committee, through which I raised two issues:

1- The reimbursement value of medications is extremely low, around 40%.

Being thus below any European standard, which stands at around 90%.

This is a huge financial burden on citizens that cannot be afforded.

The increase in funding requested today brings the reimbursement to around 80%, bringing it closer to that of the Region.

2– Currently, even those medications reimbursed at some level are mostly not certified by the EMA (European Agency), nor the American FDI.

They are not allowed to circulate in EU countries as they are unsafe.

The change in the Law by Rilindja in 2014 destroyed medication safety in Albania.

It thus stimulated the importation of "bags" of medications from countries of safe origin, i.e. legal forms, increasing costs for citizens and disrupting their Track&Trace tracking scheme.

The increase in funding requested today for reimbursement will:

—It made it financially easier for citizens, it increased their diversity.

—It would strengthen drug safety by dominating drugs of safe origin.

Unfortunately, this Rilindja party rejected this amendment in the Committee as well.
