"I have Berisha's understanding"/ Mediu: The only opposition

The leader of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, declared today that he will be the only representative from the opposition in the protest for justice against former KLA leaders.

Invited to A2CNN, Mediu said that he has the full understanding of Democratic Leader Sali Berisha for this participation.

Mediu said that he is participating in today's protest first and foremost as a citizen, and then in his role as a politician.

"I believe that I have been constant in my political positions for more than 30 years. The Republican Party stands on three main foundations. First is the nation, then it is indisputably faith and private property. And the Republican Party since the time of Mr. Godo has been quite engaged in terms of Kosovo's independence with petitions, with commitments. We made a petition for Kosovo in 1991. We also made a petition to send Milosevic to The Hague for the Serbian genocide in Kosovo.

We were active during the Kosovo liberation war in Albanian politics, in various activities, but also in the United States of America with fundraising as well as with the Atlantic Battalion, and we have created a relationship with these KLA leaders, which I believe is not simply their personal history but the history of Kosovo.

I have taken a position that in my political and personal relations I will be present today at that rally which is organized in support of the leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army. I would like to have other colleagues from the Democratic Party. I have discussed and found understanding with Mr. Berisha for my participation in this regard. It is not that Mr. Berisha has ever attempted to impose his own position and without a doubt other colleagues from the Democratic Party could have had this discussion with Mr. Berisha.

"Definitely as a citizen like you, I am a citizen first and foremost. Simply as a citizen. I will be, without a doubt, I am also a politician and I said and yesterday I will be wherever Kosovo is discussed and I will do everything possible for the good of Kosovo, because I do it for my nation and I do it for the interests of Albanians," said Mediu. /CNA
