The EU Ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato, was part of the panel discussion "Oversight of Digitalization in Electoral Processes: Towards Convergence between the EU and the Western Balkans".

Gozato stated that digitalization offers great opportunities but also brings risks for manipulation of the electoral process.

"Digital technology is transforming the way citizens engage in democracy. They are affecting how elections are administered. Digitalization offers great opportunities but also brings risks of manipulation," Gonzato said.

Further, the ambassador said that the EU has developed one of the most comprehensive frameworks for digital law, where there will be a regulation on transparency and political advertising.

He emphasized that they will further strengthen their resistance in this regard.

"The EU has developed one of the most comprehensive frameworks for digital law, we will have a regulation on transparency and political advertising. These instruments are designed to protect citizens to ensure competition and trust in electoral processes. We will further strengthen our resistance in this area," Gonzato said.

Gonzato announced that there will be a joint parliamentary committee on Electoral Reform.

"Today, after the 2025 elections, the political panorama is engaging in reform. A joint commission for electoral reform will be created, aiming to assess the legal framework, but also the fact that there is a need to face the challenges of the past."

The CEC has taken important steps for an analysis to strengthen transparency and efficiency in electoral processes. Digital oversight is central.

The use of technology requires the modernization of electoral processes.
