The Deputy Chairman of the Municipal Council in the Municipality of Tirana, Dorjan Teliti, spoke this Sunday regarding the procedure for dismissing the arrested mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj.

In a television interview, Teliti stated that the Democratic representatives in the council are ready to file charges for Veliaj's dismissal.

Teliti added that the DP is in favor of opening a debate on the damage that Veliaj has caused to the capital and the accusations against him.

"Normally the procedure is clear in these cases: any action or decision will be preceded by the word of any member of the Council who wishes to discuss. The opposition assures you that it is ready to perform its duty.

The procedure stipulates that the current chairman should be given the right to speak. What we are asking for is that it be a legal meeting and that everyone has the right to speak.

If the majority takes an initiative to ban the right to speak and proceed directly to voting, this will be an act that will be blamed on them for the total lack of transparency that has been going on for more than two years.

"We are ready to hold an open debate about the damage that Erion Veliaj caused to Tirana and what Erion Veliaj is accused of, and we are definitely ready to raise our voices for Erion Veliaj's dismissal, as this is an early request of ours, as the damage he has caused at the helm of Tirana is staggering and incalculable," said Teliti. /CNA
