Prime Minister Edi Rama was present at the presentation of the 14 services of the program "Social Fund 2026 - Guarantee for the Sustainability of Services for the Welfare of Citizens". In his speech, Rama said that the effort began with a large accumulated debt that had to be addressed with great effort.

The Prime Minister further stated that in addition to addressing the debt, a great deal of work was also needed to build a new approach to the issue.

 

" The effort began in extremely difficult conditions with an accumulated debt of tens of millions of euros to people with disabilities and to families with economic assistance. It was a large debt in the mountain of inherited debts that had to be addressed with great effort. In parallel with the repayment of the debt and the construction of the new approach, a great deal of work was required. The innovation in this service has been the extension to the local level ," said Rama.

 

During his speech, Rama did not spare jokes with the EU ambassador, Gonzato, who was also present at the event. Rama said that he is sparing in thanking the ambassadors because it seems like they are making some sacrifice, but they are simply doing their duty.

Rama further praised the support of the European Commission, saying that without them the social fund would not have happened.

 

"I have no time to thank the ambassadors because they do their duty and it seems like they are making some sacrifices to be with us. It would not have happened without the support of the European Commission. It is a vision based on a strategy, which the UNICEF representative also commended. We have been helped a lot by interactions with the European Commission and the negotiation process. The lessons learned in this process have been translated into a result here ," said Rama.
