Accidents jump terribly, they increased by 57% in the first two months of the

February of this year has again marked an increase in accidents compared to February of the previous year. Official data published by the Institute of Statistics showed that in the second month of the year there were 108 accidents with a 22.7 percent increase compared to the same month last year. Meanwhile, the two months of January and February together have recorded a figure of 270 accidents with an increase of 57 percent compared to the same period of 2023.

"In the month of February 2024, 108 road accidents are counted. The number of accident victims (killed and injured) is 149 people in the month of February 2024", INSTAT estimates.

As for those who caused the accident, the official data confirm that the behavior of drivers at the wheel continues to be problematic, while the problematic age group during February was 45-59 years old.

"Road accidents, in 78.7% of cases, occurred as a result of the driver's behavior. The highest number of accidents in this period was committed by the 45-59 age group, accounting for 22.2% of the total number of accidents. In the month of February 2024, the highest number of road accidents occurred on Friday with 18.5%, while the lowest number of accidents occurred on Tuesday with 8.3%," states the INSTAT publication.

From the data processing, the Institute of Statistics has come to the conclusion that in the second month of the year, the highest number of road accidents occurred during the time frame 08:00-12:00, accounting for 25.0% of the number of road accidents total./ Monitor.al
