Smuggling of goods is cracked down on/ 2 people are arrested, 4 customs

Two citizens were arrested after being caught red-handed on the "Kapshtica - Blilisht" road axis, transporting various clothing items that they had smuggled from Greece in vehicles.    

Four employees of the Kapshtica Customs Branch are being prosecuted for the criminal offense of "Abuse of office". 

Clothing, 2 vehicles and 3 cell phones were seized.

Specialists of the Economic and Financial Crimes Investigation Section, in continuation of their work to prevent, identify and crack down on criminal activities in the field of goods smuggling, based on information provided by police intelligence, have organized the police operation codenamed "Mission Failed" to crack down on a case in this field.

During the operation, on the "Kapshticë - Blilisht" road axis, the Police services stopped vehicles driven by citizens LN and Xh. N. During the search of these 2 vehicles, the Police services found various items of clothing, which are suspected of having been imported into Albania without completing customs clearance procedures.   

Following the actions in this case, citizens LN, 24 years old, and Xh. N., 24 years old, residents of Bilisht, were arrested in flagrante delicto for the criminal offense of "Smuggling of other goods". 

Also, the materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office where proceedings were initiated for the criminal offense of "Abuse of Office", against citizens D. Ç., 46 years old (Director of the Kapshtica Customs Branch), VN, 38 years old (shift manager), KP, 45 years old and RM, 40 years old (customs officers), as they are suspected of not having carried out the actions for customs clearance of goods, according to the law.   

The procedural materials were transferred to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Korça, for further action.
