Searches carried out in Belgium and several European countries, as part of two investigations carried out in Antwerp, led to a total of 17 arrests on Tuesday morning. The investigations are related to Albanian criminal drug organizations.

In Belgium, 12 searches were carried out respectively in Antwerp, Hoboken, Merksem, Schoten, Saint-Nicolas and Wilrijk.

The searches were carried out in cooperation between the federal judicial police and the local police in Antwerp. Searches were also made in Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Austria. 

11 suspected persons have been arrested in Belgium and 6 persons abroad, who are awaiting possible extradition to Belgium.

100 kg of cocaine and amphetamine-type drugs, firearms, chemicals, bulletproof vests and 265,000 euros in cash were seized from the action. 

The part of the investigation led by the local police is targeting a group of suspected criminals specializing in the distribution of large quantities of drugs that were then transported to different countries.

The investigations are related to a gang that imports cocaine from South America and launders money from the cocaine traffic./ CNA
