Europol dismantles "Matrix", the application used by criminal groups

Europol has broken down another encrypted application, after "Sky ECC" and "EncroChat".

Eurpol informs that it has broken down the "Matrix" coded application, where it monitored the communications of criminal groups for 3 months.

The Dutch, French, Italian, Lithuanian and Spanish authorities cooperated with Europol and Eurojust in this operation.

Actions to pursue members of criminal groups began on December 3 in four different countries. One person was arrested in France. In Spain, two suspects were arrested following an arrest warrant from the Netherlands and 6 houses were searched. 6 houses were also searched in Lithuania.

Authorities seized the app's main servers in France and Germany.

People who used this application will be notified of the interception by the authorities. Through legal requirements, authorities will be able to access the messages for their investigations./ CNA
