Zelensky: Putin is afraid that the US will hand over Tomahawk missiles to us

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview broadcast on Sunday that he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin is afraid that the United States will deliver Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.

"I knew about the Tomahawks, it's very sensitive for the Russians. They're afraid that the United States might hand over Ukraine to us, I think Putin is afraid that the United States will hand over the Tomahawks to us," Zelensky told NBC News' Kristen Welker on "Meet the Press."

During a White House meeting with Zelensky on Friday, President Trump said it was not easy for the US to deliver long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.

"It's not easy for us to give, we're talking about a massive number of very powerful weapons. So that's one of the things we're going to talk about, hopefully, they won't need it, hopefully, we'll be able to end the war, without thinking about Tomahawks," Trump said.  

The possible deployment of Tomahawk missiles has become a major point of discussion recently after Trump introduced the idea.

Zelensky noted on Friday that his military doesn't just use Tomahawks and suggested that Ukraine could give thousands of its drones to the US in exchange for missiles./CNA
