Louvre Museum Robbery: Here are the stolen jewels of Napoleon and Empress

A sensational robbery occurred this Sunday after 9 am at the Louvre Museum in Paris.

A group of thieves forced their way into the grand gallery that holds some of France's most prized treasures, and French media reports that the group made off with nine magnificent works from the collection of Napoleon and Empress Josephine.

French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez called the swift theft a 'major robbery', revealing it lasted just seven minutes.

Among the stolen treasures was the famous Crown Eugénie, a dazzling work of the Second Empire created in 1855 and adorned with thousands of diamonds and emeralds.

Worn by Empress Eugénie de Montijo, wife of Napoleon III, the crown was found thrown from a Louvre window and shattered into pieces as the gang escaped.

Local media reported that thieves targeted the jewelry collection of Napoleon and Empress Josephine, stealing nine pieces, including a necklace, brooch and tiara.
