"Zelensky has no negotiating cards"/ Trump: He should not be in the

US President Donald Trump said today that he did not think it was important for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to participate in negotiations over the war in Ukraine.

Trump, in an interview with Fox News Radio's Brian Kilmeade, said that Russia attacked Ukraine, but still suggested that former President Biden and Zelensky share the blame for failing to talk to Moscow.

"I've watched him for years and I've seen him negotiate without cards," Trump said of Zelensky. "He has no cards. And you get sick of it. So I don't think he's very important to have in meetings, to be honest with you. He makes it very difficult to make deals," Trump added.

Trump suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin wanted to reach a deal to end the war in Ukraine. He claimed that Putin didn't necessarily need to negotiate a ceasefire because if he wanted to, he would take over "the whole country."

Trump administration officials have suggested that Ukraine accept a deal that would give the United States a stake in Ukraine's supply of rare earth minerals, arguing that the economic deal would create an incentive for the U.S. to provide security guarantees to Kiev. Zelensky said he was presented with the proposal last week with little notice or time to evaluate the deal./CNA
