Trump to meet with Macron/ Details of French president's visit to Washington

US President Donald Trump is expected to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron, who will travel to Washington next week, the French EU Minister Benjamin Haddad said.

Macron will be in the US to talk about European issues and attempt to influence the contours of a lasting and lasting peace between Kiev and Moscow.

The minister did not confirm whether Macron would fly on Monday. It is also not clear whether the French president will travel with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as announced last night by US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz. Starmer's office confirmed earlier this week that he would travel to Washington next week, although the exact date has not yet been confirmed.

Macron called two crisis summits on Monday and Wednesday with EU, NATO and Canadian leaders to discuss the transatlantic crisis and Ukraine and agree on a common way forward to more effectively confront the new Trump administration.

Macron's trip to Washington is intended to convey to the Trump administration that Europeans can play a role in the outcome of any future peace deal and have the capacity to bring security guarantees [for Ukraine] to the table. The Elysee did not immediately confirm Macron's trip./ CNA
