The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, on the 36th anniversary of the 1989 miners' strike in Stan Terg, honored their contribution and sacrifice, emphasizing the historical importance of this event.

He stated that since that strike, the internationalization of the issue of Kosovo and Albanians in the former Yugoslavia in general was demanded.

Kurti emphasized that Trepça is not and has never been simply an enterprise, but is the chain that connects the past, present and economic future.

The Prime Minister emphasized that through development, he has helped education and industry.

"Today, 36 years ago, 1,300 Trepça miners went on strike, underground, for eight days. From February 20 to February 28, 1989, horizons 8 and 9 of the Stan Tërgu mine shaft had been turned into trenches of resistance against the anti-Albanian policies of Serbia and Yugoslavia. The miners' demands were laid out at that time in a total of ten points, which were known to all of Kosovo, Albanians and international public opinion, among which point 8 said: "The fate of Albanians in Kosovo and Yugoslavia should be considered in the United Nations". So, since that strike, the internationalization of the issue of Kosovo and Albanians in the former Yugoslavia in general was demanded.

Trepça is not and has never been just an enterprise. It is the chain that connects our past, present and economic future and not only. Through development, it has helped education and industry. And through it, history has been made and written. Not only the economic history of the country, but also the political one with regional effects and international echoes", said Kurti./ CNA
