Murder of Albanian in Greece/ 16-hour court session, 2 accused sent to detention

Legal proceedings continue regarding the murder of two people at a coastal campsite in Foinikounta, southern Greece, one of whom was an Albanian citizen.

Two people accused of involvement in the murder were remanded in custody this Monday, after a 16-hour court hearing.

Greek media reports that the hearing began on Sunday afternoon and ended around 4 a.m. on Monday. At the end of the hearing, the judge in the case and the prosecutor agreed that the two 22-year-old suspects should remain in custody pending further investigations.

The defendants, a 22-year-old Greek-British national and his co-defendant, who surrendered to police, blamed each other for the murders, according to court sources.

The alleged accomplice's lawyer said his client had fully cooperated with investigators.

"He has admitted his role as an accomplice, but denies being the perpetrator of the crime. The investigation remains open," the lawyer told reporters after the hearing.

The double murder occurred on the night of October 5 at the Ammos seaside camp, where the victims, the 68-year-old owner and a 61-year-old caretaker, were found dead.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances and motive of the crime. Additional witness statements and forensic analysis are expected in the coming days. /CNA
