US President Donald Trump said today that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should not target Moscow and that Russian President Vladimir Putin must agree to a ceasefire agreement within a 50-day deadline or sanctions will take effect.
His comments came after The Financial Times, citing people briefed on the discussions, reported on Tuesday that Trump had privately encouraged Ukraine to step up its deep-sea attacks on Russia.
The newspaper added that Trump asked Zelensky if he could attack Moscow if the US provided long-range weapons.
"No, he shouldn't target Moscow," Trump told reporters.
Trump on Monday announced a tough stance against Russia over its three-year war in Ukraine, promising a new wave of missiles and other weapons for Ukraine. He gave Moscow 50 days to reach a ceasefire or face sanctions. /CNA
