Zelensky: Russia with terrorist campaign to target Ukrainian civilians

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sharply criticized Russia for intensifying what he called a terrorist campaign designed to intimidate Ukrainian civilians. Zelensky made the comments in a post on 'X', where he detailed the Kremlin's increased attacks on Ukraine over the past seven days.

The Ukrainian leader says Russia shot down over 1,800 drones, more than 1,200 guided aerial bombs and 83 missiles of various types in a week. Earlier this week, Kiev said Russia launched a barrage of attacks that included aeroballistic missiles and highly lethal cruise missiles.

Russia's defense ministry has claimed major territorial gains amid its renewed offensive, particularly on the eastern front lines in the Donbas region. The Kremlin says its forces have taken the villages of Mykolaiv and Mirne in Donetsk.

Moscow currently controls just over two-thirds of the Donetsk region, including the city of Donetsk itself and much of the surrounding territory. Kiev has not commented on Russia's claims of further advance.

Zelensky also expressed continued efforts to further strengthen Ukraine's air defenses and advance interception technology. /CNA
