Tragic in Germany/ Train derails, several dead

Several people have died after a train derailed in Germany.

The accident occurred in the Biberach neighborhood, approximately 136 kilometers west of Munich.

Authorities said about 100 passengers were on the train when it derailed in the Biberach district.

Initial reports say the collision resulted in multiple injuries. Several people were killed in what has been described as a "mass casualty incident" by local authorities.

In a statement shared on X, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said he was shocked by the accident and called for all available means to support the rescue teams.

In his reaction, Chancellor Merz expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.

"The train accident in the Biberach district deeply shocks me. I am in close contact with the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of Transport and have asked them to support the rescue services with all available means. We mourn the victims. I express my condolences to their families ," Merz wrote./ CNA
