Trade tensions with China/ Trump: They will be resolved, everything will be fine

US President Donald Trump said this Sunday that trade tensions with China will be resolved, days after mentioning 100% tariffs.

"Don't worry about China, everything will be fine," Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.

Trump characterized Chinese President Xi Jinping's rare earth export controls as a temporary misstep.

"The very respected President Xi just had a bad moment. He doesn't want depression for his country, and neither do I, the United States wants to help China, not hurt it," Trump said.

Trump on Friday threatened to impose 100% tariffs on Chinese goods and restrict exports of critical software after Beijing's action. He said the tariffs would take effect on November 1 on top of any tariffs they are currently paying.

The statement sent US stock markets lower on Friday, following market turmoil following Trump's announcement in April of new tariffs around the world. /CNA
