Voting centers close/ CEC: Counting of votes for mayors in Kosovo begins tonight

A few minutes ago, polling stations across Kosovo officially closed, where voters were expected to cast their ballots for the local elections this Sunday.

Following this development, the Central Election Commission of Kosovo has shared details of the voting process.

According to a statement by CEC spokesperson Valmir Elezi, the counting of votes for candidates for mayor of municipalities will begin this Sunday evening.

Elezi informed that preliminary data on citizen participation will be published very soon.

"At 19:30 we will have preliminary data on the participation of citizens in the elections. We believe that within a short time after the closing of the polling stations, the process of counting the ballots will be able to begin. According to the law, the ballots for mayors are counted and then those for municipal assemblies. The votes of candidates for members of municipal assemblies will be counted from tomorrow in the municipal counting centers. In general, we make the comparison with elections of the same type, that is, with local elections because they have different characteristics. In February of this year, in the parliamentary elections we had 1200 candidates for deputies, while in the local elections we have 205 candidates and the solutions for the Municipal Assembly more than 4 thousand", - said the CEC spokesperson./ CNA
