Minneapolis shooting: Public schools closed for a week

Following the fatal shooting of a woman Wednesday by an ICE agent, Minneapolis Public Schools decided to close for the rest of the week as a precaution and due to safety concerns regarding today's incidents in the city, the district announced yesterday.

"All MPS-sponsored Community Education programs, activities, athletics, and classes, including adult education, will be canceled," the district wrote, adding that it will not switch to e-learning because that is reserved for inclement weather.

The shooting occurred as about 2,000 federal agents, according to officials, were being deployed to Minneapolis as part of the Trump administration's latest effort to crack down on immigration.

The incident occurred while a House Oversight Committee hearing was underway at the U.S. Capitol and Republican Minnesota state lawmakers were present./CNA, translated by CNN
