New US tariffs/ Come into effect tomorrow

Tomorrow, April 2, new tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump will take effect. The tariffs will apply to goods imported from the rest of the world. These tariffs will also apply to goods from Canada and Mexico.

The tariffs will also apply to all other countries, including the European Union and Italy.

These tariffs will include: A 25% tariff on cars and spare parts manufactured outside the US. Reciprocal tariffs, meaning they are adjusted for each country depending on the trade barriers it has imposed on US goods. Tariffs on all goods imported from the EU and other countries, including a general 20% tariff on all products.

The EU has responded to the tariffs and said it will protect European consumers. In a statement, Von der Leyen said that if necessary, the EU could impose tariffs.

"The message I want to convey to you today is that we have everything we need to protect our citizens and our prosperity. We have the largest single market in the world, we have the strength to negotiate, and the people of Europe should know that together we will always promote and defend our interests and values, and together we will always stand in defense of our Europe," Von der Leyen said./ CNA
