NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has described Russian President Vladimir Putin as the main obstacle to peace in Ukraine.
In an interview with the German daily Bild, Rutte said that the war in Ukraine is difficult to end, as Putin is ready to sacrifice 1.1 million of his citizens.
"This year, his (Putin's) progress has been minimal: negligible territorial gains, less than one percent of Ukrainian territory since the beginning of the year and, according to our estimates, up to 1.1 million people killed or wounded on the Russian side. Work is underway to determine the exact structure of the 'Coalition of the Willing': How would the deployment take place? What would happen on land, at sea, in the air? All these elements are still being worked out," Rutte said.
Rutte said he greatly respects US President Donald Trump because he is the only one who managed to bring Putin to the negotiating table and the only one who can ultimately force him to make peace./ CNA
