Innovation in Shanghai/ The first pet gym opens

China's first pet-friendly gym, Gogogym, recently welcomed its first customers at West Bund Central, in Shanghai's Xuhui district.

With an area of 300 square meters, Gogogym is a wellness center specializing in fitness and rehabilitation, especially for dogs. It features four main areas, a retail space, a fitness area, a rehabilitation area and a massage room.

Pet rehabilitation therapists will recommend customized equipment based on each dog's physique and condition to help pets stay active and prevent illness through regular exercise.

"Dogs with significant joint or bone problems should avoid land-based treadmills. They should be offered hydrotherapy options, such as underwater treadmills or swimming, which provide safer, low-impact exercise," said Lu Yilin, a pet rehabilitation therapist.

The gym caters to all life stages, from energetic puppies to senior dogs.
