The Banda region in India recorded a scorching temperature of 48 degrees Celsius, making it the hottest place in the country, as heatwave conditions continue across the region.

The meteorologist at the University of Agriculture and Technology in Banda stated that the region has been recording temperatures consistently above 45 degrees Celsius for almost a week, while night temperatures also remain above 30 degrees Celsius.

In April this year, Banda recorded 47.6°C, the highest temperature anywhere in India and the highest since 1951, surpassing the previous April peak of 47.4°C reached on April 30, 2022 and April 25, 2026. On Tuesday, Banda was again the hottest in India at 48.2°C, setting a new record.

Meanwhile, hospitals are experiencing a significant increase in patients, with daily attendance increasing by 300-400 cases over the usual 1,800-2,000, most reporting symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, headaches and dizziness. /CNA
