New record in space exploration/ NASA: Artemis II is at the farthest point from

Four astronauts from NASA's Artemis II mission have reached the farthest point from Earth that humans have ever touched, setting a new historic record in space exploration.

The crew broke the record set by Apollo 13, nearly half a century ago. Apollo 13 in 1970 reached a distance of 400,171 kilometers from Earth, while Artemis II reached 406,708 kilometers from Earth, surpassing it by 6,606 kilometers.

As reported by NASA, which is constantly monitoring the crew live, on Tuesday at around 01:47, the spacecraft with the four astronauts will pass behind the invisible side of the moon, where the signals that allow communication with the NASA control center in Houston will be blocked for approximately 40 minutes and the crew will be completely disconnected from Earth.

Apollo 13 astronauts also experienced similar moments during their mission to the Moon. Victor Glover, part of the Artemis II crew, previously said that Earth is an oasis in the midst of “a whole bunch of nothingness that we call the universe” where humanity exists as a single, unique creature.

"This is an opportunity for us to remember where we are, who we are and that we are the same and that we have to get through this together ," Glover said, shaking hands with his crewmates.

The crew, consisting of American astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch, as well as Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen, has been traveling since last week on the Orion capsule, launched from Florida. /CNA
