"The government ignores our demands"/ Taxi drivers in Athens begin a

Taxi drivers in the greater Attica region will begin a two-day series of strikes on Tuesday.

As reported by the Greek media outlet "Kathimerini", taxi drivers aim to push a series of demands, including an extension of the deadline for the mandatory switch to electric taxis, full access to the congested capital's public transport lanes, and tax breaks.

The protests are also expected to add to traffic problems in Athens, with the Attica Taxi Drivers Union (SATA) calling on members to gather in their vehicles in the city center at 10:00 a.m. and travel through the city to the Transport Ministry building.

"In the absence of sufficient charging infrastructure, with very high energy bills and extremely high purchase costs for (electric) vehicles, the forced switch to electric vehicles constitutes a financial ruin for the sector," a SATA statement stressed.

The union has called for the protest to be repeated every morning at the same time as long as the strike continues./CNA
