Putin praises the "positive dynamics" of his troops in Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin praised his forces on Sunday after claims they had gained control of Soledar and after attacks that left at least 25 people dead in Dnipro.

The victory in Soledar was seen as a success by Moscow, after several months of military setbacks on the battlefield.

"We have positive dynamics, everything is going according to our plans," Putin said on Sunday.

"I hope that our fighters will cheer us on again."

The Russian Ministry of Defense has announced this week that it has "completed the liberation" of Soledar.

Such a victory would allow Russian forces to advance towards Bahmut, another Ukrainian city for which fierce fighting has taken place.

Ukraine has rejected claims of a Russian victory and said fighting in Soledar is continuing.

On Sunday, the US-based Institute for War Studies said "Ukrainian forces are unlikely to be holding positions inside Soledar".

The war in Ukraine started on February 24, 2022.

Russian President Vladimir Putin calls the war a "special military operation" to demilitarize Ukraine.

The West has responded to Russia, hitting the economy of this country with harsh sanctions.

As a result of the war, thousands of people have died and millions more have been displaced from their homes./ REL
