Brazil's Supreme Court has agreed to investigate whether former President Jair Bolsonaro incited far-right mobs that attacked the country's Congress, high court and presidential offices, a rapid escalation in the probe that hints the former leader could to face legal consequences for the events.

Gjykatësi Alexandre de Moraes pranoi një kërkesë nga zyra e prokurorit të përgjithshëm për ta përfshirë zotin Bolsonaro në hetimin e ngjarjeve, duke përmendur si argument një video që ish-presidenti e kishte postuar në Facebook dy ditë pas trazirave. Ai pretendonte në video se presidenti aktual Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva nuk u zgjodh në detyrë, por u caktua nga Gjykata e Lartë dhe autoriteti zgjedhor i Brazilit.

Ndërkohë ish-ministri i Drejtësisë i Brazilit Anderson Torres, i cili ishte përgjegjës për sigurinë publike në Brazilia gjatë sulmit ndaj ndërtesave qeveritare një javë më parë, u arrestua në kryeqytet të shtunën me dyshimin për "mosveprim" dhe “bashkëpunim të heshtur”.

Mr. Torres was arrested after returning to Brazil on Saturday. He had been on vacation in Florida, where his former boss, far-right ex-president Jair Bolsonaro, had also traveled after losing last year's election.

The former minister said on Thursday that evidence presented by police was taken out of context when his home was raided this week.
