Why is NASA sending a mission to a metallic world?

For the first time, a NASA mission is embarking on a far-flung journey to visit a metallic world in our solar system, reports CNN .

According to scientists, getting close to the asteroid known as Psyche is the only way to determine if it is the rare exposed core of an early planetary building block.

The metal-rich asteroid is located in the main asteroid belt between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. The spacecraft, named Psyche, is expected to lift off on Thursday.

After launch, the mission will reach orbit around the asteroid in 2029 and spend about two years studying it./ CNA
