The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, will meet today in Strasbourg with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and will speak in front of the Parliament's deputies in a plenary session.

According to warnings from the European Parliament, the topics of discussion both in the Osmani-Metsola bilateral meeting and in the debate in the plenary session will be the relations between Kosovo and the EU, the support that the European Parliament has given to Kosovo in recent years, but also the current situation in Kosovo and the process of normalizing relations with Serbia.

President Osmani's visit was scheduled more than a month ago and comes in a situation where Kosovo's relations with the European Union are in a difficult phase.

The European Union considers Kosovo responsible for inciting tensions in the northern part of the country and for ignoring requests to take steps to reduce these tensions.

As a consequence, the cabinet of the EU High Representative Josep Borrel has prepared and shared with the member states some punitive measures against Kosovo.

The European Parliament has supported Kosovo since it declared independence.

The Parliament in several Resolutions invited the 5 EU countries that have not recognized Kosovo to do so.

This call was repeated in the last Resolution on Kosovo that the European Parliament approved on May 10. However, the resolutions of the European Parliament do not have binding force for EU member states.

During her visit to Strasbourg, Osmani also had meetings at the Council of Europe.

Kosovo applied to become a member of this organization a year ago. Last month, the formal procedure for Kosovo's admission to this institution began.

Osmani also met with the General Secretary of the Council of Europe, Marija Buriq-Pej?inovi?.

In this meeting, the President of Kosovo expressed the readiness of the country to meet the necessary criteria, to respect the values ??of democracy and human rights, while she called Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe very important./ Rel
