Iranian President Confirms Assassination of Intelligence Minister

Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian has confirmed the killing of the country's intelligence minister, Esmail Khatib, following a reported overnight attack.

Earlier, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that Khatib had been killed in a recent operation, linking the incident to ongoing tensions between the two countries.

In a public reaction, Pezeshkian described the event as a grave loss, expressing grief over the killing of Khatib and other senior Iranian officials. In a post on the X platform, he stated that the “cowardly murder of my beloved colleagues” has shaken the country’s institutions.

The Iranian president also mentioned other senior figures who, he said, have been killed in previous Israeli strikes, including Ali Larijani and Aziz Nasirzadeh, as well as members of their families and staff.

 

"The cowardly assassination of my beloved colleagues Esmail Khatib, Ali Larijani, and Aziz Nasirzadeh, along with some of their family members and accompanying team, has left us heartbroken," Pezeshkian said.
