Genital enlargement surgery/ Billionaire lost his life, 2 surgeons sentenced

A court in Paris has banned two plastic surgeons from practicing medicine following the death of Belgian-Israeli billionaire Ehud Arye Laniado during a cosmetic procedure for genital enlargement in 2019.  

Laniado, 65, founder of Omega Diamonds, suffered a heart attack while undergoing injections intended for the procedure at the Saint-Honore-Ponthieu aesthetic clinic in Paris.

Investigations revealed that the procedure and substances used were not the direct cause of death, but his heart condition and use of banned substances may have contributed to the event.

Initially, the prosecution launched an investigation into manslaughter, but the charges were later changed to failure to assist a person in danger, violation of drug regulations, and practicing medicine without a license.

The lead surgeon, identified as Guy H., received a 15-month suspended sentence and his medical license was suspended for life. The assistant who was present during the procedure received a 12-month suspended sentence and was also banned from practicing medicine for life. Both were fined €50,000 and €20,000 respectively.

The case has raised new concerns about the safety and regulation of luxury cosmetic surgery, especially when the procedures are performed outside strict medical protocols and for very wealthy clients./ CNA
