The municipal building in North Mitrovica was attacked with hand grenades

The Kosovo Police has confirmed that in the late hours of Monday, the municipality building in North Mitrovica was attacked with explosive devices.

The explosive is suspected to be a hand grenade, which caused material damage to official vehicles.

The police told Radio Free Europe that in consultation with the competent prosecutor, the case of "committing a terrorist act" was initiated.

A few days ago, there were also reports of stun grenade attacks near the police stations in North Mitrovica and Zveçan, municipalities in the north of Kosovo.

Tensions there have increased since May 26, when the new Albanian mayors of the municipalities in the north - inhabited by a majority of Serbs - entered the municipal buildings of Zveçan, Leposaviq and Zubin Potok.

The Serbian population, which has boycotted the elections, has opposed the action of the mayors and has continuously held protests in front of the buildings.
