The famous director William Friedkin has passed away

William Friedkin, the director of the classic horror film The Exorcist, died on Monday at the age of 87 in Los Angeles.

The cause of death has not been confirmed yet, but it is rumored that the director has had some health problems in recent years.

His other notable films included the crime thriller The French Connection, which won five Academy Awards, including Best Director.

Friedkin died before his latest film, The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, opened at the Venice Film Festival on August 30.

Although his career began in the early 1960s, his most notable success came in the following decade with the release of 1971's The French Connection.

"The family is obviously very upset," Stephen Galloway, a friend of Friedkin and dean of the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, told the BBC.

"His mind was always so sharp, mixed with a kind of mischievous humor. The films he made in the 70s live on at any time," he added./CNA.al
